Default MIT Admissions Dean fakes resume

In a bitter irony,MIT Admission dean resigned today after admitting that she had put fake degrees in her resume.
http://www.thebostonchannel.com/educ...99/detail.html

Contrast this with H1-B Visa applicants. If some one on H1-B visa were to change jobs, they need to furnish following documents
1.W-2 for last year
2. Two latest paystubs
3. Copies of all educational degrees held.
In addition, there will be a background check from a professional agency, which will actually call -
-All previous employer mentioned in resume
-Checks with all educational institutes mentioned in resume
-Call up references
-Criminal Check.
Now, whom will you hire next time? A Green Card job applicant just supplies a SSN,and a simple criminal check is run against them. They can fake all the degrees and work experience they want. There is no way to verify last salary held by a citizen/GC applicant. Poor H1-B visa holder can not even fake this simple thing.

What makes you say they can not check your previous salary if you hold GC/Citizenship. This does not seem right.

Actually it depends upon company to company how much background check they do and not on your visa status.

vikki76 may have gone a little overboard with the salary statement, but the rest is true....there is simply more information stored in govt databases for a foreign national, hence more rigorous screening is possible

Default Yes true

I work for TOP 10 and background check is very serious here after enron debacle.

We interviewed several people and offered positions. To my surprise there are huge number of people fail the stringent background check of my company. They do it through private firm I beleive. They check all the previous employment, school / college records etc etc. Scary if you commit even a small offense like drunk and drive, etc etc and it affects your career.

THE FAILED persons are all CITIZENS.

Default Same in my office

My CTO had a fake resume which said he worked at NASA and studied at MIT. When they ran a background check, everything was false. He was fired. He is a US citizen

I am saying this from personal experience. When I was offered a job, I had to supply all these documents and go through this background check process which took 1 month to clear. My friends on H1-B,in other companies also had to go through same process.
My colleagues, who are US-Citizens and GC holders didn't have to comply with any of it.
Even in India, everyone has to supply a copy of their educational qualifications. So,it seemed pretty odd to me that why are companies accepting things at face value for Citizens and GC's.Everybody can lie.

I think, Radioshack CEO resigned recently after some one exposed about the lies on resume about the education.
