Good hotels near Chennai/Madras US Consulate?

Hi,
Can you give me some suggestion on good hotels which are within 1KM from the US Consulate Chennai?

Thanks.

Boss, go to google and search for motels/hotels in chennai. This is a forum with purpose and lets keep it that way. Post questions only related to immigration instead of personal information.

Sorry for harsh words.

hotels near us consulate in chennai

There's one called Palm Grove that I've usually stayed in. It is quite close to the consulate, i am not sure if it is walking distance, but auto rickshaws take the minimum charge and it hardly takes 5 minutes from the hotel to the consulate.

search for woodlands or ranjith or palmgrove in google, dont worry about autos in chennai, they are big time cheats, they will rip apart 50 Rs per ride from anywhere minimum.

Thanks for the quick response. I found a good link http://www.hotelschennai.com/
However Indian addresses are not yet properly geocoded to find the distances between two locations.

If you search for businesses on google map search and give "Anna Salai, Chennai" some hotels pop up. However these seem to be the expensive Sheraton etc.

I found that the Auto Rikshaws in Chennai are quite expensive.

Please post your suggestions.

Refer to

Auto-Rickshaws are not that expensive, except that bargaining with these unscrupulous auto rickshaw drivers is tough and tiring. This is one of the worst aspect of chennai. It is better to get some friend/relative local to chennai to help you.

Stay in Egmore and pay for call taxi and tell them to run the meter. If Auto is expensive.

In addition to Palm Grove (as mentioned in another post) Taj Coromandel is right across from the Consulate but, it is expensive. Chola Sheraton is another Hotel in that road (approx 1km away).

hi gps,

you can stay in a hotel called as "Ranjith", its 5 mins walk to US consulate from here. I am from that city and also have stayed in this place and would rate it fair. Palmgrove is another option too.

swamy 12-26-2007 05:48 PM

palmgrove is pretty close. woodlands is abt a couple of kms away - still walkable ( http://www.newwoodlands.com/ )

bekugc 12-26-2007 08:57 PM

GPS, u can try Palmgrove; rates r reasonable and is walkable to the consulate. anybody will show direction from there to consulate & its very easy. turn they also offer pretty decent southie food. hmm...what a pleasure to not get caught in the autorickshaw scene of chennai.. :-)

If you are going to visit Chennai for visa interview, then your best bet would be to ask the consulate officer about local bargains on hotels.

Also, look for autorickshaw drivers who are willing to share their driver seat with you while transporting others in the back. You could save tonnes of money right there!

You took auto from The Park to Consulate.. :-). Right opposite to Consulate there is a small lane, it has many hotels. They are decent, a bit expensive.

In GN Chetty Road and Pondy Bazaar, there are at least 30 nice hotels. All accessible to Consulate < Rs.30 by Auto/ Call Taxi. There is Residency, Residency Towers, GRT Grand Days..and many others.

In case you are not in walking distance from Consulate, plan ahead and give at least 45 minutes buffer time. Chennai traffic will be extreme during rush hours.

my 2 cents

We hope to see more immigration kind of questions. Please do not use this forumn. Administrators should allow a seprate area where they can post this questions or have a general FAQs not related to immigrations.

As of my experience, when i was 22 yrs old,(12 years back), i travelled to madras without knowing tamil. I spoke in english, and had same expereinced with auto drivers. Its not a rocket science to find a accodomation, There are some cheaters which u cannot avoid Pay them $2 to $4 thank them and get your things done. Afterall, don't show off that u are from USA.
Its just a matter of $2 to $4 cheaters. Pay our indian brothers. They won't cheap u too much they have their limits.
Its not a big deal. Even today i can find my way out in any place in india.

After getting so many advise on the thread would you mind to contribute to IVs holiday fund raising. $100/- would be great anything less would do.
