Default How long does it take to get PIO Card from Washington, DC

We had applied for our daughters PIO card around 1'st week of July, in Embassey of India, Washington DC. The form very clearly says it takes 15 business days to process. They also require original passport to sent along with the package. Its been more than 30 days and no clue. No answers to eMail / Voice Mail / Fax ..., We already made travel arrangements and worried now. Can some one share your experience applying PIO card in Embassey of India, Washington DC. Appreciate your help !!!

it took me 18 days to get it last year... i personally went and drop the documents and got PIO card by returned mail ....july is holiday season ....

why don't u go and visit them if not far from DC?

it is govt organization what you expect from them...

many folks told me to mail them but didn't trust them since knew it wud delay and gave a personal visit ....

the embassy is small 1500 sq ft and counter is like pav bhaji stall ....

but the folks are good with few resources and only 3 women working and pretty old too ...so guess atleast do the work but some admin might be sleeping

i wud say go and visit them ...

Anil, Thankyou very much. I am almost 300 miles away from DC, probably if thats what it takes as well make a trip. By any chance, do you have any working phone # in Embassey of India, DC or a contact name there, please.

Well to be frank , they never pick up the phone and the voice mail is always full , even if u leave a voice mail they respond or call u back rarely. My friend got PIO card for his daughter recently it took him almost 8 to 9 weeks. I would suggest mail them the application with the docs and pray that they process you application . Making a trip for PIO is not worth it especailly when u have to drive 600 miles both ways with the gas prices now these days.

@GREENWAYS: You can get phone number information at http://www.indianembassy.org/newsite/passport.asp

You should call them around 1:30-2pm, they respond in person (surprisingly). If unlucky, try calling them between 5:30-5:45pm (you will get response).

Thankyou. I will try this today and update my experience here. Last week, I tried calling all Indian Consulates (TX, NY, CA, IL, DC) in the USA just to talk to a live person, but no luck.

I am assuming yours went to 'Consulate General of India, Chicago'. These offices seems to be autonomous, and don't work on any common ground rules, right from the requested documents list to photo requirements to approval times. It is clearly mentioned in Washington DC PIO request form to send original US passport.

We took a pic @ home with white background and used this website
http://www.epassportphoto.com/
to resize and printed like a regular 4*6 @ CVS.

Default Originals not required at Houston either

I submitted a copy of my passport and my husbands passport. I did take the originals with me so they can verify it.

I also took a copy of my daughter's US passport, which they verified and returned.

I did not submit any originals. I verbally requested them if they could expedite the PIO card and they did (no extra charge) I got the PIO in 3 days. This was on May 12th this year, and we all traveled to India on May 24th.

Hi anilvt,

I'm also planning to goto DC embassy to apply for PIO card for my kids.
Can we give cash for app. fee when we go in person? If not, can app fee and return postage fee be paid in one MO/Cashiers Check?
Is there a parking lot near Indian embassy? Or do I have to take the metro?

Thanks,
gcisadawg
