Default Visitor Visa - Will the Visa effective start date be always the day visa is granted

Hi,

My parents are planning to visit us in Aug 2007 (Change in plans). They have their visa interview on Dec 6th 2006. In their DS-156, for Q.22 (When do you intend to arrive in the US?) we filled in - August 2007.

If the Visa is granted, will they be given the Visa effective from
A) Aug 2007 or
B) immediately

If it is effective right away and it is just for 6 months, then it's of no use (it wud expire b4 Aug 2007). If the visa is always effective from the date of interview i'm thinking of cancelling the appointment and planning to take it closer to Aug 2007. Please suggest.

Regards

I would advise that you change the interview date to sometime closer to August 2007. I believe I read somewhere that the visa interview should not be further than six months from the date of intended travel. I may be wrong and I'm sure others will correct me if I am.

Since that question is after No.15, you can change it upto 2 days before interview, and my suggestion, make it January or Feb 2007, visa officer wont go back and check if you later change your plans to August.

Default No worry

They will make sure the visa will be given for Travel date mentioned. As 1 year time frame is not that long.

I think its ok. I sent my parents in november in stamping mentioning they will travel in June time frame. They got for 5yrs visa.
