Default Can we stop digging up really OLD threads?

Hello IV members,

Over the past few weeks I have seen a lot of members digging up really really old threads and posting things on them. This creates unnecessary havoc and panic amongst members. Over the past couple of days I have seen threads like "Massive IV campaign for administrative fixes" or things related to the July 07 bulletin coming back into the forefront. Things that have happened 2-3 years ago and have come and gone, are being dug up.

Now I understand the need to not create new threads and re-use old ones to keep everything central, but at some point we need to close threads that have been inactive for say a period of 6 months or so.

I think poeple are resorting to PUI ( Posting under influence). People, "Post Responsibly".

After 2 drinks dudes tend to forget that we are already in 2010. My carefuly observation.

My intention was to see if we can get successful campaigns going again....however, it looks like the discussion for which I posted is not happening, instead we discuss whether the thread is old or new!

Its a better idea to create a New thread. Digging up old threads only leads to the impression that there was an update on the original post. For new users the old post information is interesting and informative, but for people who have been around for a while its annoying to see a thread with a sensational headline and then figuring out that its just a recycled old thread.
Creating a new thread with your request would be looked upon more favorably than bumping up older threads.

Its not about reading the thread.
E.g. If you saw a thread with the title ALL Categories Current for the month of May, wouldnt you be excited ? What if you happen to click on that thread and figure out that this thread was created in june of 07 ? Wouldnt you wanna pummel the guy who gave you false hopes although for a brief moment ?

EXACTLY my point. It's not about not reading the post if you don't like it. The problem is we DO like it, because it gives us renewed excitement, which vanishes after clicking on the thread.

It may be a good idea for a admin of the boards to flip a setting on the forums software to make threads who have not had a posting in x number of days/weeks/months to automatically mark them as archived/read-only.

I mean if a thread is inactive for 4 months or more, clearly the moment has lost it's magic!
