Default International airlines experience in this thread...please share experience

I have started a thread for sharing international airlines experiences. It is quite unfortunate that one airlines has dual attitudes when it comes to domestic vs. international travel based on destination. Since most of us have to travel internationally I think this would be an appropriate forum.

Default Continental airlines

Flight Newark to New Delhi

Good things: Direct flight, not really very expensive

Not so good things: Inappropriate treatment of passengers by flight stewardesses, not enough leg room,

Recommendation: I wouldn't recommend it

Default Alitalia (Italian Airways)

JFK to Delhi;

Good things: nice in-flight food

Bad things: Milan airport very congested, flight delayed several hours, in-flight crew not very hospitable.

Recommendation: Good alternative if you want to take a break in Europe at no extra cost.

Changeover at Brussels - Jet Airways has a 5 terminal hub

Have heard nothing but great stuff. So would strongly recomend it

Default Emirates

JFK to all Major destinations in India.

Hub - Dubai

Good but expensive, Dubai airport is congested and bathrooms are crowded.

I would not recommend it strongly as you have so many choices

Default Jet Airways

I traveled to india recently by Jet airways. It was a good experience. Good leg room, good food, good reception from the flight crew. Very reasonable price. I strongly recommend it.

I travled by emirates and delta in the past. Jet airways is lot better than these two.

Default Singapore Airlines

Los Angeles to Hyderabad

Good : In flight experience, service and airports, stop over in singapore and move around in singapore at no cost and no need of visa. In about 2hrs you are being shown total singapore in airport bus. You can get to see Airbus 380 the worlds biggest commercial flight.

Bad: Little expensive, Long stop over durations (this helps if u want to see singapore) and a short stop over in Taipei.

Recommendation: good under following:
1) If you can afford extra 8-10 hours of flight time
2) Need Indian food
3) So many indian in the flights
4) want to see singapore
5) ready for few extra hundred bucks ( may be u can get a deal if u book in advance)
6) Excellent flight experience far better than AirIndia

Default Airindia - Los Angeles to Hyderabad

Los Angeles to Hyderabad

Good: for indian food and indian environment around. Prepares urself to get to feel actual india even before u land.
Best for bringing parents as flight attendents can help guide in a known language

Bad: Not so good flight experience

Recommendation; direct flight to bombay. less expensive. good for indian parents who aren't very good at english.

rajum02 will become famous soon enough
Default QATAR Airways

Recently we traveled IAD (Washington Dulles) To Hyderabad.
I will never travel in Qatar.
Service is not good, food is not good, most of the crew were Indians, and we did not get any good service for my pregnant wife.
I will not recommend this flight for families with kids.
Doha to Hyderabad flight is very small, so they allowed only one cabin baggage per family. Doha airport employees were very rude; they treated like cheap labor.
Compare to QATAR Airindia is 100% better.

Default Ranking of airlines

why dont u start a poll to have an overall ranking so that members get to have an idea which one to prefer. The poll could be two or three places

1. Los Angeles/San Franscisco or western airports
2. JFK/Near by eastern airports
3. Dallas/ Central US airports

Default AA Chicago Delhi non stop

Non stop flight
Reasonable price
Boeing 777
Good flight experience
Nice food
Non-stop so no problem of connection, transit VISA etc.
Reaches Delhi around 8:30 PM. Ideal time
Cons -> Nothing wrong with AA but Chicago ORD airport.....It is a mess. On a bright sunny day, Chicago experiences 2 hours delay. If it snows.....only God knows. Avoid Chicago during winters.

Default

Air India
-------
EWR to Delhi

Good - Cheap, direct (with stop over in Paris), good food, they let us carry more than allocated luggage weight

Bad - Rude service

I'll take this flight if I don't care about rude service

Continental
----------
EWR to Delhi

Good - Cheap, non-stop flight takes about 15 hrs
Bad - Really bad service, not so good food, cramped leg room, you got to pay for your liquor

I'll take this flight if I want to get there in a hurry

Good: Direct flight, in seat entertainment system, leather seats in economy, reasonable cost, so european scalping charge for transit visa and decent service DXB airport: best airport in the world for duty free shopping.

Bad: Direct flight (15 -16hrs), full flight, goto buy your liquor 1 hr before the flight
