IV Action item: Advocacy day support

As you would have seen from the recent announcement about the IV advocacy event between March 17-19, 2013 – our efforts are in full swing to ensure that high-skilled provisions are part of immigration reform in 2013. Our efforts so far have included IV core members attending meetings with key offices on Capitol Hill on a weekly basis, IV being invited to testify in the House Judiciary Committee Hearing on Immigration as well as keeping track and reviewing draft immigration legislation as soon as the same is received by our team (which is often weeks before it is in the public domain).

We have to ensure a well-funded effort this year so that no stone is left unturned. Not once should we make the assumption that just because Immigration Reform (Comprehensive or otherwise) is the buzz word, our issues will automatically be taken up. Immigration bills are complex and wide ranging. So unless we keep pressing forward with our lobbying and advocacy, we will be left behind.

In addition to our grass-roots efforts, we have also hired consultants/counsel and paid lobbyists on a regular basis to complement our grass-roots efforts. Our advocacy events (and unique milestones such as the IV Freedom and Fairness Summit last year) are planned and executed in an elaborate manner. The posts below give you an idea of the scale of our efforts

You will witness this yourself when you join us for the March 2013 advocacy meetings. We are a grass-roots group of volunteers that relies on your contributions to sustain these elaborate efforts.

Our first request is for you to join us in DC in March to meet Congressional offices and petition for removal of GC backlogs. In case you are not able to make it, please consider contributing to IV’s efforts. If you have friends who are stuck in backlogs or will be stuck in the GC queue in the future, educate them about our advocacy efforts and encourage them to contribute. Try to reach out to 5-10 of your acquaintances with this message. Please help us reach our funding goal of $50,000 for Senate CIR effort. Together we CAN and WILL make this happen.

Contributed $200 on 02/20/13. Transaction ID 16M39060LK8013047. Will try to make it to the Rally.

A note to those who ,like me , are silent supporters. It will be helpful if your support is conspicuous and noticeable , by means of contributions / posts. It will help IV to project in terms of numbers rather than visits to the site.

Pappu,
I understand this may not be in the agenda for these advocacy days. But if IV get's an opportunity to toss in some pain points OR meet with CIS Ombudsman:
  • please consider bringing up the issue of how inconsistent USCIS (TSC) is in issuing 2 year ead/ap "Combo card" even in routine renewal cases. (and shortchanging folks with a 1 yr combo card, despite their memo being clear on validity period.)

Thank you for bringing it up. It has been a long time since we worked on EAD issues. Couple of years ago we brought the issues of EAD delays and got a fix done. We then as a followup brought up small suggestions for fixing problems when EAD was lost in mail, or EAD tracking etc. old timers will remember those threads.
OMB office does not have powers. But such things can definitely be told to the agency. If we claim something is wrong, then it is always helpful to provide proof. If there are a lot of cases to show as proof then such complaints are looked and fixed for everyone in future. All we have to do is make a strong case for it. If you would like to go ahead, take a lead, and collect cases, make a documentation with suggestions, please go ahead and submit to IV. We will bring it to the attention of officials.

I won't be able to attend as baby is due very soon.
