Lightbulb Need help/suggestion to invite relative.

Hi,

I want to invite my friend's mother to USA for short trip (few months). Please let me know, if gurus have any info how it works. Can I sponsor her? My friend is gc holder and presently out of job & can not provide full time employment letter for sponsorship.

Will it be enough, if provide:
1) Sponsorship's doc
2) My W2s, pay-stub, employment letter, etc.

Thanks.

I would be careful to get involved as it is like co-sign loan, you never know what could happen that might affect you in a negative way. Besides it seems you would be helping friend get around requirements of US Govt for bringing over a relative. Yes best to say sorry to your friend no matter how much he is paying for favor.

Default Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

I am not worried about issues from my friend side. My friend is co-signer for many of my loans. We are like a family and living together for many years. I am worried about VISA processing. So, I would like to know if I need to provide anything more than regular docs/papers. We want to take a chance. It's fine if it works.

Anyone has similar experience and would like to share?

Default Right

You are right. If you are sponsering, you are liable for their expense, medical expense etc.... My friend brought his parents last year and his father suffered a stroke and still in hospital for the past one year. He is so weak to transport to India. Now the medical bill running into few hundred thousand dollars. He have a house and and is paying every month. He is in deep trouble now. We never know what will happen. So be careful in signing any sponsering letter.

Sorry to hear that. Hope he gets strength to handle it. How about Medical Insurance? Is it not covered?

Default No Insurance

He didn't insured them. He invite them to show his new house and his father got sick in the first month of his stay. Now his parents are illegal (overstayed). He need air ambulance to transport to India. He is in semi coma (NON RESPONSIVE) and need oxygen some times.
He thought about getting him deported by using government money by informing USCIS. But lawyers suggested, it will be disaster for the elder person. They may put him detetion facility in NJ and didn't give proper medicine and may die there. No insurance will cover him now. Medicaid for GC and citizens. Not for visitors.

Default No need for employment

If your friend has GC, there is no need to worry. he can sponsor his own mother. There is no need to Employment verification. The only thing needed is a good bank balance for the last 12 months (about 100K) . Owning a home also helps!

That's it. Nothing else is needed.

Default Citizen

Green card holder cannot sponser parents. GC holder can sponser only spouse and unmarried children. He have GC.
If his father die, his problem will be solved. But it is not happenning. He don't let him die by delaying medication or oxygen. It is against moral and ethical values, even though draining his resourse. Now is going to approch Catholic charity for help.
