Thats what I will probably do. Just take off for a vacation on a cruise which I long dream of with family and kids. A quiet sailing around the carribeans so that I can just re-enter peacefully and re-energize my self to throw away all the frustrations of waiting for a GC. Once that is done, your mind will surely come up with some refreshing ideas/concepts and you will be recharged and proceed after those ideas/concepts.

Good luck and congratulations on your GC.

I got to admit since job is paying for bills, I cannot just kick it away. Especially when you are living in Detroit area, where jobs are like dinosaures.

Anyhow, couple of months ago some of IV's started yahoo group. But it soon evolved into business plan writting contest, so I was out. The point missing was the fact that you need to have business idea before business plan can be hashed. But I assume someone did benefit and proceeding ahead, otherwise what a waste.

So if you are still hanging around and reading this post, I guess you know what I mean.
BECsufferer,

Your had a very genuine question. But, you know how people here are. After I got my GC, I asked a question regarding immigration law: whether it is mandatory to carry GC with me all the time.....I was butchered for that. I was told to shove my gc up my ass, tattoo it on my back, hang it around my neck and more.

For some (minority) in this forum you are a friend until you suffer and once you stop suffering, you become the object of hatred. People (again minority) are too upset, too angry and mentally disturbed and they have all the justification to be so ......... but they are, I guess, not civilized to control their emotions.

Anyways, if you have some money and want to invest or start your own venture, best thing I would suggest is to network with people that are accomplished in the area of your interest. That is a good starting point. You might even find someone who is looking for a partner.

We want to build a strong community of immigrants. It is not just people waiting for greencards. People who have greencards can continue to help and support this organization.
People who got Greencards are welcome to work on provisions that can help them like - Counting citizenship wait time from the date of I140 approval. IV will provide support.

If anyone is being rude or not following forum rules, report to the moderators. Each one of us need to be responsible and mature in our postings. Immature posts reflect badly on the organization we all belong to.

I don't know what business plan writing contest you are talking about. Before anything needs to be done we need a plan, and several ideas are thrown around. We did something concrete like setting up appointments with congressmen, and meeting with them at their offices. I don't think I have met you at all. If you've been lurking in the shadows, and just listening to all the conversation...shame on you. You did not show the courage, or leadership to come out, and voice you opinions or concerns. Let alone doing anything. Now that you have your GC you want to open up your big mouth. Sorry to say but I don't ever see you becoming an entrepreneur...you'll just be following the crowd, and remain a free-rider always. Good luck anyways!!

I can see where you are going with this. Waiting for GC for 5-6 years takes a certain amount of toll. Add to those 5-6 years a few years before starting the GC process. You are essentially looking at 8-10 years on H1 status. Once you have been in limbo for a third of your life it is very hard to break out and start a new position/business.

But I think this is a personal battle you have to fight yourself. You have to go thru a thorough introspection of what you want out of your life now that GC is not your excuse/priority. Is it money or family? Is it just that you dislike your current job or do you dislike the corporate culture? Do you dislike the industry you are in? Do you like the job but it is dead-end?

In the end, you will have to make some hard decisions. You might have to switch jobs, move to a different place, start a new business. In essence, you will have to learn to fail.
GC process makes you so cautious that you can't fail at any step. So you become super risk averse. You will have to go thru a journey to find out what you want and then take a chance.

I can share some experiences if you PM me. Good luck.

He is your true friend. He gave you courageous much needed reply that will open your closes business holes in your mind. He knew you will reply badly even he showed the courage. Any way in business you need to have similar skills. If you follow him you will realize later once you are in business, how important this tip is. Once you find him give him a warm hug. There no quota system in doing business you need to be practical.
Always remember you can achieve anything by proper use of mind and hard work but when bad time comes one loose the control on mind and don’t get the proper environment for hard work. Bad time comes from multiple ways together.
Consult a CPA and Thank God for every small thing. You are good person by heart but that's not how business runs.
Good Luck

Never forget IV even if you got your GC. You shouldn't be surprised why people visit after getting GC; for example my own brothers are still in waiting, though I got mine last month. well, although one feels releived a lot. after one gets journey did not end, just another session started,

Hello,

OP has an interesting question that may hanut many of us once we get the GC. As somegcuh pointed out, it may create a thinking vacuum (i.e. no looking up Case status daily, no PoJ calls, no rush to lookup latest visa bulletin, no daily/hourly visits to various forums and so on). It's almost like retirement! What do I do now that I'm retired?

As I've seen with my friends w GC, life doesn't change much with GC. What changes life is our individual efforts (with or without GC) and goals.

PS: Anyways, a nice vacation is always a good 'to-do' after getting GC, I guess?

Serious but still very funny reply. Particularly the segment about "feeling like retired". You are absolutely right. I met a friend recently who got greened and now he cannot sleep due to fear of being layed off. Living in the US without a decent job is the mose terrifying aspect I guess. Anyway best of luck to those who are feeling retired with a green card in hand.
