Default Citizenship questions

Folks
I am eligible to apply for citizenship. I live in bay area and am going to India for a month to meet my parents from last week of June till 4th week of July 2017. Should I apply now for the citizenship or should I wait till I come back?

What are the typical times now (after applying) for
1) finger printing
2) citizenship interview

Thanks

Default Processing times in bay area

I just went for my interview at Santa Clara office.

Processing times are usually pretty quick.
1. After you file your application - expect within 4 weeks to get Fingerprinting scheduled for you.
2. After fingerprinting you should expect interview call in 6 to 8 weeks.

Note: Each time - I had to reschedule as I was travelling. Santa Clara office is very responsive they reschedule my finger printing as well as interview calls.

I m still waiting for Oath Ceremony notice - will let you know when I get that.

Smile Citizenship questions

In my opinion it is better you can start this process after your travel. At times the process move faster and once you got citizenship, it takes at least couple of weeks for you to get the new passport and then you have to apply for Indian Visa and surrender the existing Indian passport.

If you want to apply for OCI, that may take some more time and your mobility without a passport during that time is very much restricted.

If your travel dates are flexible, then it is fine and if not, then better don't risk it.

Thanks

Wait. Are you crazy? it takes more than 5 months to get your citizenship. How about your U.S passport? Indian OCI? it takes around 8 months
